Inclusive and Supportive Environment
Most SWT reported good support from administration (leadership engagement), and in relation to relative priority, some SWT reported that they were able to schedule additional opportunities and make room for wellness in their schedule, such as adding another block of recess. For organizational culture, there was a sense of staff members feeling overwhelmed with other responsibilities, which may have attributed to the lack of buy-in from the whole school. Other SWT talked about how Extension staff kept them accountable for the goals they had set in the first checkpoint call and were responsive to requests for help with various programming aspects.
Employee Wellness
Effective programs have no shortage of data about their own performance. A 2020 review of research by David Osher and colleagues at the American Institute for Research found that the education system cannot effectively support student learning and thriving without attuning to adult well-being. In other words, it is dependent on the relationships students have with their teachers, their peers, and their connection to the subject matter they study. Supporting school-based health initiatives is an investment in brighter futures for individuals and societies as a whole. As awareness grows about the importance of holistic student well-being, more schools are likely to adopt these initiatives.Technology plays a crucial role in this expansion. Community members can engage directly with schools, fostering relationships that enhance both student well-being and local involvement.Moreover, partnerships create a network of advocates who can drive policy changes at the district or state level.

When students know their health is prioritized, they feel more supported.Mental health is equally critical. School-based health programs offer a myriad of advantages that gambling extend beyond the classroom walls. We fund programs with an equity lens—prioritizing communities historically marginalized in healthcare and education. SBHSN operates a competitive grant process open to public and public charter schools serving students in grades 6–12. They can also track changes in students’ health behaviors, like increased physical activity or improved dietary choices.

- Schools should promote the healthy food and beverages provided in school meals in various ways (e.g., announcements, newsletters, community and council meetings, food and nutrition education lessons).
- Health and wellness education must be both accessible and meaningful to students regardless of age, gender, race, ability, socioeconomic status and/or religion.
